Custom Stainless Steel Castings
Custom Stainless steel castings are the general name of castings made of various stainless steel materials (also known as stainless steel precision castings). Stainless steel casting or stainless steel investment casting is a wax loss investment casting process by pouring molten stainless steel into the mold to solidify it to obtain solid stainless steel components with the required shape.
It can be called investment casting or lost wax casting. The main two kind of this casting are silica sol casting and water glass casting.
Advantages of stainless steel castings
- Excellent corrosion resistance
- Excellent surface finish
- High dimensional accuracy
- Extremely complex parts can be cast
- Almost any brand can be cast
- No burr or parting line
Stainless steel casting materials
Material grade | General purpose |
304 | Food grade steel, shell |
304 is widely accepted as the standard of cleanliness and corrosion resistance in the food industry.
304L/ 316L | Similar to other 300 series steels, “L” stands for low carbon, making each grade of material softer but more corrosion resistant. |
316 | Housing, gear, plate |
316 is famous for its excellent corrosion resistance, which makes it very suitable for many applications, including marine environment.
410 and 416 | Housing, bushing, handle, bracket |
400 series steel has high strength and is very easy to process. They will tend to break rather than bend under strong pressure.
17-4 | Rod, pin, connecting rod, arm |
17-4 is the strongest in the stainless steel series and can be used for parts that cannot be bent. |
