Stainless steel investment castings

Stainless steel investment castings, also known as precision lost-wax castings, represent one of the most advanced and versatile manufacturing processes for producing high-integrity metal components with exceptional dimensional accuracy, complex geometries, and superior surface finishes. This process is particularly valued for applications requiring corrosion resistance, high strength, and reliability in challenging environments—from medical devices and aerospace systems to marine hardware and food processing equipment.
ChinaMetalCastings is a professional investment casting and CNC machining manufacturer in China, with extensive experience in producing high-quality stainless steel investment castings for global clients. Equipped with modern facilities and a skilled engineering team, the company provides end-to-end solutions from design assistance and prototyping to full-scale production and finishing.
What is Stainless Steel Investment Casting?
Investment casting involves creating a wax pattern of the desired part, which is then coated with a ceramic slurry to form a shell. Once the shell is hardened, the wax is melted out, and molten stainless steel is poured into the cavity. After cooling, the ceramic shell is broken away to reveal a near-net-shape metal part that requires minimal machining.
This process is ideal for stainless steel alloys due to its ability to produce parts with thin walls, fine details, and excellent surface quality (typically Ra 1.6–3.2 μm). It is especially suitable for low to medium volume production runs where complexity and performance are critical.
Commonly Cast Stainless Steel Alloys
ChinaMetalCastings works with a wide range of stainless steel grades, including but not limited to:
-
304/304L: Excellent for food-grade and general industrial applications due to its good corrosion resistance and formability.
-
316/316L: Offers enhanced corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride environments. Ideal for marine, chemical, and medical industries.
-
410 & 416: Martensitic grades known for high strength, machinability, and moderate corrosion resistance. Often used for valves, pumps, and shafts.
-
17-4 PH (Precipitation Hardening): Combines high strength with good corrosion resistance. Suitable for aerospace, military, and high-stress mechanical components.
-
Duplex Stainless Steels: such as 2205, providing a combination of high strength and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
Other alloys such as 303, 347, 420, and 440C can also be cast upon request. Full material certifications and mill test reports are provided to ensure compliance with ASTM, DIN, EN, JIS, and other international standards.
